Valentine's Day 2017

I'm actually thinking ahead for Valentine's Day this year. Most of the time holidays that require a little advanced prep really sneak up on me. Here's what I'm planning for this year:
Conversation hearts can be used for a fun math activity!
A fun Valentine's Day math activity using candy conversation hearts
Every year I have my students do my {candy heart math} activities. That usually means that I'm scrambling around the night before looking for conversation hearts (does anyone actually eat those things?!)

This year, I used Oriental Trading to order the {candy hearts} which will double as part of my valentine gift to my students. Students will be able to use the box of hearts to do the activities, then they will be able to eat them (ick) when they are done. Along with the candy conversation hearts, I'll be giving them a valentine brag tag included in {this set}.

During reading rotations, students will be doing my {Valentine ELA Centers}. I'll actually have to do these for two days since there are five activities and my students have three non-teacher rotations a day.

As far as crafts, in the past I have done this fun (and tricky) woven heart basket. If you have students who are really good at following directions, then I would recommend this craft. They turn out really cute. You can just search "woven heart basket" and find different patterns.

Here's another cute craft appropriate for 5th graders.

And these are a must do. Pretty easy and they look great hanging up in your classroom.

Of course, {Oriental Trading} is a great place to get your construction paper for these projects. Which is also where I got the materials to make our valentine holders this year. I love the large sticky conversation hearts. (Looking for a deal at Oriental Trading? Visit their {coupon page} for the latest in sales.)

Now all I need to do is line up parents to bring in snacks and send out the class list for writing valentines!

What will you be doing with your students for Valentine's Day this year?

Disclaimer: Oriental Trading let me choose these items and I received them free of charge. The opinions are 100% mine.
