When I began this blog, I was moving classrooms for the first time in my career. For the first 13 years, I had taught 5th grade in the same school in the same classroom. Then the entire fifth grade population was moved to the new 5-8 middle school, and Fifth in the Middle was born. Since then, I have gone through many other location changes, but I have always remained in 5th grade. I love the 5th grade curriculum, especially social studies. I think that 5th graders are a great mix of independence, curiosity, and innocence, plus they totally understand my sarcasm!
After teaching 5th grade for 20 years, I will be starting a new chapter in my career by becoming the teacher librarian at our 4th/5th grade building opening Fall 2019. I am very excited about this change, and I hope that you will continue to go on this journey with me!
