To quote Nick - "What is Tunes Tuesday? (My new readers may be asking!) It's simple! Just choose a grammar skill and pair it with a popular (or classic!) song (with clean lyrics!) that has examples of that skill in the lyrics. Copy and paste the lyrics into a document, and ask the kiddos to highlight the examples throughout the lyric sheet. I like to play the music video (clean version obvs!) for the kids while they work. It takes just a few minutes, but the kids beg for it every week! Music + boring grammar skill + highlighters = Fun grammar lesson! My contribution is Katy Perry's Firework. I did options for both similes and pronouns. Click on the sheet to get the download.
If I were you, I would NOT show the original video. But I found her singing on Oprah with a kids' chorus. {Here} is the link.
And I chose my pin it to win it winner! Check your email!

Thank you so much for linking up! I love your lyric sheet and song! I pretty much always go for the alternate video when it comes to Katy Perry...haha!
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised no one went for that one she sang with Elmo that was pulled off the air. Have you seen it?

I used this song last year with my kids and they would sing-scream this one...not a great thing when you're in a pod setting and the 2nd graders are hanging around the corner to see WHAT the big kids are doing that is so FUN!! So of course...I opened the wall and let them join us!

Love it!! I teach 4th grade, and I start each year by teaching them 8 writing devices, simile and metaphor being a couple of them. Super idea using this song to illustrate that. They LOVE Katy Perry. Will def. do this lesson in the fall. Thanks!
